This page discloses the information gathering and dissemination practices for the DearFlip App for Shopify.

DearFlip Flipbook for Shopify (the “App”) lets Shopify merchants display PDF documents as interactive flipbooks on their storefront. This policy describes what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By installing the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

1. Information we collect

From merchants (when you install the App)

When you install the App, we receive and store:

  • Store identifiers — your .myshopify.com domain and shop ID.
  • API access token and granted scope — the credential Shopify issues so the App can operate on your store, limited to the permissions listed below.
  • Store contact details (name, email) only if you contact us or as provided by Shopify for support and service notifications.

The App requests only the Files permissions (read_files, write_files). These are used to list your store’s PDF and image files in the App’s pickers and to upload files you choose into your store’s own Files section. We do not request access to products, orders, customers, or any other store data.

Data stored inside your Shopify store (not on our servers)

The following stay in your store’s own Shopify data and are never copied to our servers:

  • Flipbooks you create (title, PDF reference, cover image, display options), stored as app-owned metaobjects.
  • The App’s global viewer settings, stored as an app-owned metafield.
  • PDF and image files, stored in your store’s Files section.

From your storefront visitors

We do not collect, track, or store personal information about your storefront’s visitors. The App sets no cookies and runs no analytics on your storefront.

When a visitor opens a flipbook, their browser downloads the DearFlip viewer library from our content delivery servers (app.dearflip.com). Like any web request, this exposes the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent to standard, short-lived server logs used solely for operating and securing the service. No profile is built and no identifier is stored.

From support requests

If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message, used to respond to and resolve your request. We may also use feedback and suggestions you send us to improve the App and its documentation.

2. How we use information

  • To provide the App’s functionality (authenticating your store, listing and uploading files, rendering flipbooks on your storefront).
  • To provide customer support.
  • To maintain the security and reliability of the service.

We do not sell, rent, or trade any information. We do not use your data for advertising.

3. Sharing

We share information only with the service providers required to run the App — our application hosting and content delivery infrastructure — and only to the extent needed to operate it. We may also disclose information if required by law.

Third-party links and content

PDF documents you publish may contain links, and your storefront theme may include content from other websites. Those websites have their own privacy practices and may set their own cookies; we are not responsible for the data they collect. This policy covers only the App.

Our websites

Our marketing and documentation websites (such as dearflip.com and dearhive.com) may use cookies and analytics tools (for example, Google Analytics) to improve our content and services. Those tools apply to the websites only — never to the App or to your storefront — and are governed by the notices published on those sites. Analytics data is not merged with any information the App holds about your store.

4. Data retention and deletion

  • Uninstalling the App removes its access to your store. Shopify notifies us, and we delete your store’s session records (store domain and access token) from our systems.
  • Shopify redaction requests: the App implements Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks. When Shopify sends a shop/redact request (48 hours after uninstall), any remaining data for that store is permanently deleted. Because the App stores no customer data, customers/data_request and customers/redact requests require no action — there is nothing held to report or erase.
  • Flipbooks, files, and settings stored in your Shopify store are governed by Shopify’s own retention rules and remain under your control.

5. GDPR, CCPA and your rights

We act as a processor of the minimal store data described above; the merchant remains the controller of their store’s data. Depending on your location (including the EEA, UK, and California), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or erase personal information, and to object to or restrict its processing. Since the only personal information we hold is your store identifiers and support correspondence, requests can be handled quickly — contact [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. We may retain information where reasonably necessary for administrative, legal, or security purposes (for example, records of a resolved dispute).

If you are in the European Economic Area and believe we have not addressed your concern, you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

6. Security

Access tokens and store data are stored in access-controlled infrastructure, transmitted only over HTTPS, and used exclusively through Shopify’s official APIs. Access is limited to what the App needs to function.

The App is a business tool for Shopify merchants and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. By using the App, you represent that you are at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App evolves or as legal requirements change. The effective date above always reflects the latest revision, and material changes will be announced through the App or by email.
